Lobby Day Resources

Lobby Day is an organized event where constituents meet with their elected officials to advocate for specific issues or legislation. It often includes scheduled meetings, educational sessions, and sometimes rallies or press conferences.

Anyone interested in advocating for a particular cause or issue can participate in Lobby Day. This includes individuals, advocacy groups, non-profit organizations, and community members.

Preparation for Lobby Day involves researching the issues or legislation you will be advocating for, understanding the positions of the officials you will be meeting, and possibly attending training sessions or briefings offered by the organizing group.

Participants should bring identification, a list of talking points, any relevant materials or handouts, a notepad and pen for taking notes, and comfortable clothing and shoes as there might be a lot of walking.

During a Lobby Day meeting, participants usually introduce themselves and their organization, present their case or concerns about specific issues or legislation, provide supporting materials, and engage in a dialogue with the elected official or their staff.

On the morning of Lobby Day, participants will meet at a designated location near the Capitol in Olympia for a one-hour training.

During training, participants meet group members, review the topic points we will address with state lawmakers, and how to lobby legislators.

Light snacks and coffee are provided. From there, we head directly to the Capitol.

Meetings with state lawmakers run from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, with each meeting lasting approximately 20 minutes.

Participants are responsible for providing their own lunch. You may bring one or visit one of the Capitol cafeterias.

After meetings conclude, we host an evening reception at a private location with dinner and drinks provided.
